The predecessor firm of Ames & Whitaker was founded in Waterbury, CT in 1947 and became a professional corporation in 1970. Greg Ames has been an officer of the corporation since its inception. Steve Whitaker was an associate of the corporation during that first decade. He rejoined the firm as a principal in 1983 and in 1989 the firm name became Ames & Whitaker. Our office is located on the Green in Downtown Waterbury in an historic brick structure built in 1885, formerly the St. John's Episcopal Church Parish House. The building was purchased in 1984 by the firm and altered to become professional offices. The design and construction for the restoration of this landmark building was completed in strict conformance with federal standards for the rehabilitation of historic buildings. Ames & Whitaker specializes in public and institutional architecture throughout Connecticut, offering comprehensive high quality services. Our public project experience encompasses all types of buildings including educational facilities for all age levels, community centers, fire stations, garages, police headquarters, town and city halls and libraries for local, state and federal governments. Private projects have included banks, churches, office buildings, industrial and retailing facilities, nursing and senior care and all types of residential architecture. Services available from Ames & Whitaker and our consultants include every expertise related to building and site design. The firm's "in-house" discipline capabilities encompass: Architecture Site Planning Space Planning and Interior Design Cost Estimating Construction Administration and Inspection Feasibility Studies At Ames & Whitaker each member of our staff is given the opportunity to gain the depth and breadth of experience that is essential for his or her technical and professional growth. However, it is, and will continue to be, our policy to designate a principal of the firm to work with our clients in an active role from inception to completion. Due to the size of the firm, the principal-in-charge is a working member of the team with an intimate knowledge of the entire project. We have structured our firm and controlled its size to accommodate that key principle in our practice; that the principals will be in a position to manage the firm while continuing to function as architects. The firm has received awards for excellence of design for public and private clients from organizations such as the American Library Association, the American Institute of Architects, the Connecticut Building Congress and the Connecticut Society of Architects. As an established, well-managed corporation, our financial stability has been consistently above question. Financial statements, bank and trade references can be supplied upon request. It is a guiding premise at Ames & Whitaker that outstanding design and technical ability must be supplemented at all times by an awareness that the reason for our success is our perception of architecture as a service to our clients. We believe this attitude is well reflected in our previous work and urge you to contact our client references |
