Sustainable Design/Green Buildings

Ames and Whitaker has a long history of energy efficient, environmentally responsive design which is finding a growing receptivity and enthusiasm among our clients. All of our recent and current projects are responsive to sustainable design principles, some are very sophisticated and advanced examples. The Readiness Center at Camp Rell in Niantic, CT, for example, will be a gold level sustainable building.

Historic Buildings

The firm has a long standing commitment to the preservation of historic building ranging from our own office building pictured above to current restoration of the Naugatuck Railroad Station for the Naugatuck Historical Society Museum, the just designed facade restoration for the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, CT and the restoration of Luce Hall, the flagship building of the US Navy War College in Newport, RI.

Ames and Whitaker Architects under contract with AT&T Communications
for sole source alliance design contract

We are under contract with AT&T Communications (formerly SBC and Southern New England Telephone Company) as their sole source for Architectural and Engineering services throughout Connecticut. Under the multi-year "Alliance agreement" Ames & Whitaker provides all design services required by AT&T, with all construction services being provided by the highly regarded Petra Construction Corporation of North Haven under a separate Alliance contract.

This unique arrangement creates an identity of interest and fosters cooperation in a climate of mutual support and creative interchange among the owner, architect, engineer and contractor to improve the quality, efficiency and economy of AT&T projects.
